Our Million$Revenue Club kick-off event was a great success and it was fun to see our first client, Jacquie Berglund of FINNEGANS, accept her award for achieving her first million. We aren’t stopping there, though. We are well on our way to another 50% growth in revenue in 2012 and are excited about what that will mean to her company and their mission.
Would you like to be next? Are you ready to enter the Million$Revenue Club? Throughout this year, our articles will be tailored to helping you achieve this goal. This month, we are going to concentrate on YOU!
I bet that doesn’t happen very often, does it?
Focused or Drifting?

Ever been in a boat on a lake that hasn’t dropped its anchor?
What happens?
It probably depends on how calm the water is, what type of body of water we are in and whether or not the wind is blowing. It also depends on what your objective is.
Whether the water and wind are calm or not, you start to drift away. Many times very far from where you started and most likely further from shore.

Over the last several months, as WorkAround opened and my coaching business began to shift, I spent a lot of time analyzing and reflecting about what it means to be an entrepreneur. Who are the true entrepreneurs? What do they look like? How are they going about building their businesses? Are they really serious about it or just dabbling?

Recently Fast Company had an article titled: How To Get A Job In America. In it, one way they describe how to get a job is to ‘join a coworking space’.
Double Dip?

When you hear the term “double dip”, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
A) A continuing economic recession that is sucking the life out of you and your business and creating more uncertainty and making everyone miserable?
B) Or are you like me and think ICE CREAM! You would have to be lying under a rock on an island in the middle of the ocean not to be constantly inundated with bad news about the economy. The experts are weighing in and it is not looking good for us. We are definitely in trouble.
Or are we?

I’m never going to be a ‘people person’. That said, I do believe in the need for verbal communication. In previous incarnations of my career, I’ve backed away from communicating via email, especially if the person is in the same building.
Learn From the Fair: The Great Business “Get Together”

Who do you think is the champion and king of building local strategic partnerships? I would argue it is the Minnesota State Fair. Think about it. Just about everything they do from the food vendors to entertainment to transportation is built around developing alliances with local business and state agencies both large and small. Everyone wins in some way.

The state fair has an excellent Unique Selling Proposition. This means that people want to do business with the fair because it’s so much better than the competition.
They do this by knowing who their customers are and by controlling every aspect of the customer experience. Looking at what the state fair does well can help you differentiate your business from your competition.
Pronto Pups, Postcards and Operations Manuals…

In my former position, part of my responsibility was coordinating State Fair presence for the organization. 12 days at the end of summer, not a big deal, right? Wrong. My first year doing this was a shock to my system. I don’t come from a State Fair going family, I blame my mom’s years growing up on a farm in Iowa for that. It was all hustle and bustle, all the time for those 12 days. My mantra became, “Labor Day will come.” Well, Labor Day did indeed come and while I packed up our booth at the end of the day, I thought about how nice it would be to not have the pile of other work on my desk grow exponentially while I was in midst of State Fair planning and implementation. I got exactly four days of State Fair reprieve. That’s right, within four days, I received a postcard from the fair with all the dates and deadlines for the next 12 best days of summer.

Twin Cities Nanny is now a Red Cross Authorized Provider

We have been working hard to partner with the Red Cross and we finally did it! We can now host our own classes for both members and the community! Believe it or not, we a
re the first placement service in the Twin Cities to do this. We wanted to have an opportunity to not only offer trainings to our members, but also extend it to the community. This allows us to facilitate trainings in-house and we get to choose who does the instructing. We are very excited and can’t wait to host many classes.
